Das maligne Melanom der Haut stellt sowohl klinisch als auch experimentell einen entscheidenden Schwerpunkt der Univ.-Klinik für Dermatologie und Venerologie in Graz dar.

Besonderes Augenmerk wird der Melanomvorsorge und der Früherkennung geschenkt. Eingehende klinische Untersuchung jedes Patienten in einer Spezialsprechstunde, gezielte digitale Fotodokumentation und extramurale Aufklärungs- und Screeningprogramme zielen auf eine rechtzeitige Erkennung und Therapie ab.

Operative Behandlung von Melanomen einschließlich Exzision des "Sentinel-Lymphknotens" werden an der Klinik selbst durchgeführt.

Bei Hochrisiko-Melanomen werden adjuvante Therapien mit Immunmodulatoren und Chemotherapeutika durchgeführt. Neuerdings werden auch gentechnische Therapien in ausgewählten Situationen unter Studienbedingungen versucht.

Bei fortgeschrittenen Melanomen, bei denen eine Heilung derzeit nicht möglich ist, wird von unserer Klinik aus eine umfassende interdisziplinäre palliative Therapie durchgeführt bzw. koordiniert.
